There are indications that a rough tide is coming the way of Musiliu Akinsanya, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers better known as MC Oluomo.

Branch chairmen under his watch are said to be grumbling and forming alliances against a policy MC wants to introduce in the transport union.

Societynow.ng gathered that Oluomo who just spent a year in office as State Chairman wants to put in place a rule that stipulates that branch chairmen should step down from their posts after ten (10) years in office.

‘’And he wants the rule to affect all branch chairmen who have already spent 10years in their position should leave office’’ a source stated.

Information at hand revealed that this move is against the current practice which makes the position ‘’a lifetime appointment’’ as long as the occupier remains in the good books of successive chairman and his executive members elected every four years.

‘’In the NURTW, the chairman can only serve two terms while executive council members have no limited tenures but must be elected every four years. The branch chairmen are appointed and it is a life appointment, the only way to remove a branch chairman is to find an excuse to bring in a caretaker committee, usually as a result of violent conducts that threaten public peace and you have to be a branch chairman before you can contest to be a state chairman or any other executive position” societynow.ng learned

”A Caretaker committee can be in charge for as long as the chairman wants” a source stated.

The position of branch chairman is one of the most lucrative positions in the NURTW, especially in Lagos state with the occupier earning millions of Naira within days.

‘’Because there are units in a branch and the units controls all the means of land transportation, except rail and there are also tickets to traders in some places within their designated zones ‘’ societynow.ng gathered.

Insiders disclosed that MC Oluomo’s move of limiting the tenure of branch chairmen to 10years is aimed at spreading the wealth, to open up more opportunities at the top for the followers.

Insiders, however, disclosed the attempt has not gone well with a large number of the branch chairmen and they are plotting to put a stop to it irrespective of the odds against them.

‘’The main grouse is that Oluomo wants the policy to affect all the branch chairmen who have already spent 10years in office and these are the big guys that helped him to power such as JPron’’ societynow.ng learned.

Femi Bayeku better known as JPron played a major role in the emergence of Oluomo as Lagos NURTW.

Also to be affected by the new policy is recently re-instated Kunle Poly (Kunle Lawal) who fought MC Oluomo in the race to become State Chairman until the latter’s victory was inevitable.

‘’With this policy, Oluomo has provided his enemies and friends a common ground to work against him, hence the emerging gang up’’ societynow.ng learned.

Sources, however, disclosed a showdown looks inevitable as Oluomo appears bent on exercising his absolute power as the state chairman of the Nurtw to have his way.

‘’Because in NURTW, the state chairman is the all in all and whatever he says goes, how the aggrieved branch chairmen intend to put such an absolute power to test remains to be seen’’ societynow.ng learned.
