Senator Ibikunle Amosun is swimming yet another controversy.

But unlike before, the familiar terrain appears to have become slippery for the immediate past governor of Ogun state,

The relentless allegation of stockpiling arms is doing damage to his plan for the future.

Though he has denied the allegation of stockpiling weapons, Premiumtimes.ng the former governor’s chief accuser has refused to let.

The rated platform simply leveraged on Amosun’s denial – via aide Rotimi Durojaiye – to leverage other angles to keep the fire of the arms stockpiling allegation burning.

And there lay Amosun’s troubles. To maintain close proximity to President – his primary source of power -, the former Governor needs to be as scandal-free as possible.

The main allure of President Buhari is integrity and fighting corruption.

The same is demanded of those that hover around him in other to sustain perception about the President.

‘’that is why this arms stockpiling controversy is not doing Amosun any good. It hinders open and public interaction with the President which is what the former governor really needs now’’ a source pointed out.

The controversy is said also said to be limiting his push for self and loyalists in the bid to secure good standing in the re-elected administration of President Buhari.

There is an ongoing outcry for the police to bring in Amosun for arrest – and possible prosecution – over how he allegedly acquired the huge numbers of arms and ammunition he claimed to have handed over to the police a day before he exited the office of Governor of Ogun state.

This is against the background that the Ogun state police command’s account of the handed weapons differs to Amosun’s.

The numbers do not tally. There are huge shortfalls in the numbers of ‘’security assets’’ received and what was claimed to have been given.

The situation became more compounded for the former governor when Premiumtimes.com reported denial by former President Goodluck Jonathan that his administration issued an approval for Amosun to acquired weapons.

Chats by the news platform with Governors of other states who insist that acquiring weapons and keeping them in government house for ‘’whatever’’ purpose is an anomaly has also not helped Amosun’s situation in any way.

Societynow.ng learned that opponents of the former Governor – within the party and the government – are wildly leveraging on the controversy to ‘’cage’’ him.

‘’Though Presidency might have refused to move against him but those out for him are using this controversy to do damage to his political standing, especially against the background of the indignity the President suffered in Abeokuta when Amosun campaigned against the gubernatorial candidate of his party in his state when he was Governor’’ a source stated.

Before now, Amosun was the voice, ears and eyes of the President in the Southwest region, but the tide has turned for the former governor turned Senator and the raging controversy over stockpiling of weapon making things worse’ soocietynow.ng learned.
