How Connect Initiative Celebrated Gov Eno’s 61st Birthday

In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion and community spirit, Connect Initiative marked the 61st birthday of Governor of Akwa Ibom State Umo Eno by extending love to the less privileged — just as the Governor himself had wished.

The Governor added a year on April 24, 2025.

Honoring Governor Eno’s request that friends and well-wishers celebrate by supporting the needy rather than splurging on adverts or lavish gifts, Michael Effiong, Senior Special Adviser, Lagos Liaison Office to the Governor, alongside his friend, Sam Osunsoko, led the Connect Initiative team to Ozanam House, a home for the homeless run by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, located in Ikeja.

The visit, which followed a careful needs assessment carried out a few days earlier, saw the team present essential items such as cartons of biscuits, milk, chocolate beverages, and a cash donation to support the residents of the home.

Explaining the purpose of their mission, the team emphasized that their gesture was in fulfillment of Governor Eno’s compassionate vision for his birthday celebrations.

Receiving the gifts, an elated Rev. Sister Pauline Ekanem — who, coincidentally, hails from Akwa Ibom State — expressed deep gratitude to Governor Eno for choosing to celebrate in such a thoughtful and impactful manner.

Sister Ekanem, who noted that Ozanam House is set to mark its 30th anniversary, highlighted the Home’s vital role as a sanctuary for women, their babies, and youths who find themselves homeless.

Overcome with emotion, the normally reserved Sister Ekanem warmly prayed for Governor Eno, asking God to bless him with a long life in excellent health and to abundantly replenish the pockets of all who contributed to the effort.

In an unprecedented moment, Sister Ekanem even agreed to record a special video message, conveying heartfelt birthday wishes to Governor Eno — fondly described as “Mr. Compassion” and Nigeria’s “numero uno Governor” — capturing the spirit of a truly memorable celebration.

The day left everyone deeply fulfilled, as laughter, joy, and love were generously shared — a true reflection of Governor Eno’s leadership style and personal values.
