Gulder, Star, Guinness, Coca-cola, Chivita, Palm Wine & 7up Take Centre Stage As CBN Gov Godwin Emefiele Buries Mother, Alice In A Who Is Who In Attendance Ceremony

Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the weekend in Boji-Boji Agbor, Delta State, buried his mother, Madam Alice Emefiele, who died at age 94.

The two-day burial ceremony, which took place in Ika South Local Government Area, saw the ‘who is who’ pay their last respect to the deceased in a modest ceremony.

True to the CBN governor’s campaign for ‘Made in Nigeria’ goods, no imported champagne, beverages and foods were served at the ceremony. Guests were served only traditional Nigerian foods, bites and local drinks from Nigerian Breweries, Guinness, Coca Cola, 7up, and Chivita Limited. Locally brewed fresh palm wine was also served.

“The Emefiele family is leading by example, practicing what this administration is preaching… It is a very modest ceremony to celebrate the life of a very well loved mother and easy-going community leader, who raised very successful children in their various fields,” one of the federal Ministers in attendance told THEWILL correspondent at the event.

The funeral rites was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir Lawal), who represented President Muhammadu Buhari and the also led the presidential delegates to the ceremony, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governors Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Adams Oshiomole (Edo), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Willy Obiano (Anambra), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Kashim Shettima (Borno), Mohammed Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari (Zamfara), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger) and deputy governor of Benue State, Benson Abounu.

Some of the top government officials in Agbor also included Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Wilfred Oyo-Ita; Minister of Budget, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma; Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed; Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu; and Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.

Several Senators and members of the House of Representatives were also in Agbor to paid tribute to Madam Alice Emefiele.

Former governors in attendance included Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Ouusegun Osoba (Ogun) and Niyi Adebayo (Ekiti).

Top executives of banks as well as businessmen like Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Mr. Jim Ovia, Alhaji Abdulsamad Isyaku Rabiu, Mr. Tunde Ayeni, Peterside Atedo and Femi Otedola were also in attendance.
