Governors Forum Quarrel Over Aregbesola, Fayemi Others Alleged Betrayal
…Oshiomole tagged ‘man of honour!’
The Governors Forum- a composition of all Governors of the 36 states of the federation- is riddled with pocketfuls of quarrel at present.
And the reason for this is not unconnected with just called off strike action over fuel subsidy removal.
Sources divulged that the raging quarrel in the Governors body with Rivers state head man Rotimi Amaechi as Chairman has root in allegations of betrayal and lack of honour.
And the allegation is against all the Action Congress Governors- except Adams Oshiomole of Edo state.
Sources claimed that the 36 governor body Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State
had endorsed the removal of subsidy before the idea was made public.
The endorsement was reportedly made in the throes of clamour for minimum wage- when they clamoured for increase in ‘money sharing to the state’ and the President explained to get ‘extra revenue’ fuel subsidy has to go.
The Presidency had hinged it position on documentation that the subsidy fund was making it way into private pockets of marketers.
The Governors had agreed to the move- with Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state cited as at the fore front.
The Governors had supported the removal of fuel subsidy- well aware of the economic implication on the masses at that point in time.
According to a source ‘ his colleagues found it ironical that it was the same Aregbesola that was the champion of the anti subsidy move, when the move turned unpopular!’
They claimed he was ‘gaining cheap popularity’ at the expense of the collective image of the group.
Same for Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State.
Their public stance against a move they agreed to reportedly sparked off ill feeling towards them among colleagues.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state and Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos states were seen as ‘not sticking to their word’ by providing fertile ground for protest against a decision they were a part of.
Only ACN governor, Adams Ashiomole stuck to his word and stood by his decision all out in the face of public angst.
He is being hailed ‘a man of honour’ in the governors forum.
The other governors silent on the issue- and subtle supporting subsidy removal with palliative measures view the other governors as ‘betrayal and dishonest seeker of cheap publicity’
This opinion being expressed in words and attitude is said to be causing great friction within the Governors body- Head man Amaechi striving to douse the rising tension.
