Osun state governor Rauf Aregbesola is a furious man at present.

And his emotional state is not about issues affecting the state under his stewardship but political happenings in that of another.

The Osun Governor is said to be very angry that candidates that had his backings lost out in clinching tickets to contest as party’s flagbearers for the position of “Chairman” in the upcoming council election in Lagos state.

This is against the background that “selected” party candidates of ruling party usual emerge winners in council elections.

Prior to the recent development, the Osun Governor had been a major contributor to decisions regarding who gets what politically in Lagos state.

He was a former commissioner and heavy weight politician who enjoyed the confidence of powerful figure, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Lagos before he became Governor of Osun state.

He had continued to wield the same influence despite the fact that he heads another state.

But the latest “selection” of party candidates for the upcoming council election turned the table on him.

And the Osun state head is described “still furious!”.

“None of his preferred choice made it, except those who also enjoyed the support of other major players in the present administration… But all those who solely relied on Governor Aregbesola lost out” a source disclosed.

The Osun governor is said to be particularly irked with the all situation by the revelation that all Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s choices made it through.

The Osun Governor is said to view self as a bigger player in Lagos politics but the development creating rancour has proved this false.

And the Osun state head man is said to be furious that the Lagos Governor formally behind him now appears far ahead in pecking order.

“He is angry but helpless” an insider stated.

Reason for the helplessness?

Overall political decision maker of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to be quietly backing Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the twist giving Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola silent nightmares.

And there are said to be other quiet powers as well, especially as talks the Osun Governor is eyeing a return to Lagos via a Senatorial seat – while is working hard to retain political power in Osun state by proxy.

The bottom line is that he is now seen as overreaching, hence the loss of face in attempting to install council chairmen in Lagos while he remains Governor of Osun state.
