Gov Oyetola Gets Asiwaju Tinubu’s Backing In Osun Speakership Battle With Aregbesola

There indications Governor Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola would have his way as regards installing his choice candidate as the speaker of Osun state house of assembly.
According to information available this development is due to the fact Governor Oyetola currently enjoys the backing of his brother and former governor of Lagos State Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the matter.
Tinubu, the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, is Aregbesola and Oyetola’s benefactor.
Tinubu’s clout and political machination made Gboyega Oyetola and Rauf Aregbesola governors of Osun State, back to back.
Earlier report by societynow.ng indicated Governor Oyetola and his predecessor Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola are seriously battling to determine who replaces the current speaker RT Honourable Najeem Salaam as head of the state’s legislative arm.
Hon Salaam’s tenure ends on June 3, 2019.
Incumbent governor Oyetola is revealed to be rooting for Tunde Olatunji the honourable member representing the people Ife North at the house of assembly.
Interestingly, the man Oyetola served in his government as Chief of Staff for eight years Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola is backing one of his own loyalists and kinsman Timothy Owoeye.
Owoeye is a fourth term member house of assembly from Ilesa East state constituency.
But the coming of Asiwaju into the scheme of things appears to have reduced Owoeye’s chances of getting the position.
More so as his backer – Aregbesola – is largely seen as one who does not go against Asiwaju on most issues.
Asiwaju Tinubu is said to have waded in and assured Governor Oyetola of his total support.
“From what I understand Governor Oyetola has reached out to his brother (TInubu) and he has assured him of his support. He, as a matter of fact, promised the governor the choice of speaker will definitely swing his way”, a source disclosed.
