Immediate past governor of Lagos state Akinwunmi Ambode has traveled out of the country.

Societynow.ng learned that Ambode slipped out just as the government of his successor Babajide Sanwo-Olu takes off.

Ambode who was restricted to a single term in office as a result of fierce opposition by leaders of his party, All Progressives Congress refused to turn up at the inauguration ceremony of new Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Ambode was, however, forced to release a statement claiming need to avoid sharing in the ‘’glory’’ of ”inauguration ceremony” with Sanwo-Olu in the bid to stem the criticism over his action.

Societynow.ng sources claim the fear of possible ‘’public embarrassment that may not be limited to outright boos’’ forced the former governor to shun his successor’s inauguration ceremony.

Ambode who is believed to have joined the rank of major opposition to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the estranged mentor that helped him became Lagos Governor reportedly slipped out of the country under the cover of the celebrations and focus on Sanwo-Olu’s assumption of office as the new Governor.

Insiders claim the quick travel out of the country by Ambode may also not be unconnected with fears of his fate now that the immunity he enjoyed as a governor is gone.
