Gov Abiodun, Sen Daniel Face-Off Spills Into Mourning Adewunmi Ijaya
is not going away anytime soon.
The face-off between Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Gbenga Daniel is not going away anytime soon.
Political watchers point to a recent event as a major indicator.
The two chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are mourning Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, whose demise has sent shockwaves that are yet to subside.
Onanuga died in London on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.
However, the political leaders have refused to reach a compromise in memory of the House of Representatives member famously known as Ijaya (the fearsome one).

Both released statements claiming extraordinary closeness to the late representative of the Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North federal constituency at the National Assembly.

While Governor Abiodun, who was very emotional to the point of openly shedding tears during a condolence visit, described Ijaya as “a loyal and dependable ally,” Senator Daniel labeled her “a close confidant, younger sister, and unwavering ally.“

These declarations come against the backdrop of their ongoing make-or-mar supremacy tussle.
In an open show of the raging animosity between them, the Governor and Senator paid separate visits to Onanuga’s family within 24 hours of her passing but an hour apart.

“Their quarrel has obviously spilled into mourning the politician they both labeled a strong ally,” sources assert.
Insiders opine that what has transpired between Daniel and Abiodun offers a glimpse into what is to come as arrangements are made to plan a befitting burial for the House of Representatives Deputy Chief Whip.
