Multiple sources have confirmed that Gbenga Daniel, Senator representing Ogun East, was nowhere to be seen on the campaign trail of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of Saturday’s Remo Federal Constituency by-election.

“I was there. I didn’t see him personally, but I can’t say whether his loyalists joined or not,” an insider told our correspondent, echoing the sentiment of several others.

Daniel, who was conspicuously left out of the official campaign council for the poll, had on Monday announced from a foreign trip that he would return to help his party clinch victory.

However, party insiders disclosed that he only arrived with a single day of campaigning left.

The APC wrapped up its pre-election vote canvassing on Thursday, August 14, 2025, with a grand rally in Sagamu.

The event drew the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, and other high-ranking party leaders — but Daniel was notably absent.

A former two-term Governor of Ogun State, Daniel remains a political heavyweight with deep grassroots influence. Sagamu — the heartbeat of the Remo Federal Constituency — is his stronghold.

His absence at the rally, sources say, is tied to an ongoing feud with Governor Abiodun, a fellow Remo native from Iperu, who maintains a tight grip on the APC structure in Ogun State.

The Remo Federal Constituency, where the by-election will be held, covers the local government areas of Ikenne, Remo North, and Sagamu.
