EFCC Explains Operation At Majesty Estate In Port Harcourt Amid Raging Allegations
clarified the circumstances surrounding its recent sting operation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified the circumstances surrounding its recent sting operation at Majesty Estate, along NTA Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following rising public concern and a viral video that allegedly showed operatives breaking into an apartment and harassing residents.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 2, 2025, the anti-graft agency with Ola Olukoyede as Chairman explained that its operatives from the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate responded to a distress call from residents of the estate over the suspected presence of internet fraudsters in the area.
The operation, which was carried out on Friday, August 1, led to the arrest of 37 suspects allegedly involved in cybercrime activities.
EFCC noted that during the operation, its intelligence had flagged a particular apartment for a search. However, the occupants reportedly refused to open their doors despite the operatives’ clear identification and explanation of their mission.
This led to one of the doors being forced open to enable a search, which, according to the Commission, yielded no arrest or incriminating recovery.
The Commission described as “strange and unwarranted” a viral video making the rounds that purportedly depicts a scene of harassment and misconduct by EFCC operatives. It emphasized that no unprofessional conduct occurred during the operation and that several residents of the estate expressed appreciation to the operatives for their efforts in apprehending suspected fraudsters in their midst.
“The Commission remains resolute in upholding sound professional conduct in its operations and will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures against any of its operatives found to be overzealous in the discharge of his duties,” the statement read.
EFCC reiterated its commitment to lawful enforcement actions and appealed to the public to continue supporting its efforts in tackling economic and financial crimes across the country.
