A cacophony of tunes has taken over the nation’s political circle over the emergence over the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.

The emerged National Assembly leaders were not the preferred candidates of their political party, All Progressives Congress.

And to compound an already tensed situation, they enjoyed the backing of opposition party- People’s Democratic Party.

Saraki emerged Senate President in an election that was absent off majority of his party men despite earlier announcement and scheduling of the ceremony.

The process that saw him emerged unopposed also threw up opposition party member, Ike Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President – in a move seen as pay back for the support of the PDP to Saraki’s emergence.

The development greatly contravened the ruling party’s preference for Ahmad Lawan as Senate President and Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker House of Representatives.

While the bulk of the APC Senator elect stayed off the process that produced Senator Bukola as President – Gbajabiamila slugged it out with fellow party man, Yakubu Dogara.

He ended up losing by a vote of 172 to Dogara’s 184.

The developments at both the Senate and House of Representatives have attracted widespread reactions clearly defined as cacophony of noise.

The ruling party in statement signed by its National publicity secretary has threatened sanctions against the new leaders and their supporters using words such as ‘monumental act of indiscipline’ and ‘betrayal’ to describe the political players.

Specifically the party asserted ‘“There can be no higher level of treachery, disloyalty and insincerity within any party’ and vowed to ‘use every constitutional and legal means available to resolve the situation’

For the People’s Democratic Party, the unravelling development is seen as snatching victory from defeat – the two National Assembly leaders were former members of the People’s Democratic Party.

And it is believed that the party is geared to reap bountiful for providing it’s support with lucrative appointments in and out of the National Assemble.

In another varying positioning, the President, Muhammadu Buhari is said to have opted to remain neutral, but gave tacit backing to the emergence of Saraki and Dogara.

The President in a statement by his spokes person, Femi Adeshina opined ‘Though he would have preferred the new leaders to have emerged through the process established by the part’ but took the stance ‘Nonetheless the President took the view that a constitutional process has somewhat occurred’.

Mr President charged all elected representatives to focus on the task ahead.

On it’s part, the PDP described the development as ‘victory for democracy and triumph of the time-honored value of the PDP’

On the Streets raging arguments about what manner of change ( in reference to the slogan that brought APC to power)pervades- while some claimed treachery like APC’s official position, others claim otherwise.

And while the argument and counter argument raged, and different interpretation and permutations on the effect for one and all come into play- one thing is certain, the cacophony of discourses is certainly not about to abate anytime soon.
