Details: Why They Say Gov Dapo Abiodun Appears Not Interested In A Second Term In Office
Charles Oyelesi
There is growing talk in the political circle in Ogun State.
The talk is that Governor Dapo Abiodun appears not to be interested in spending more than a single term in office.
Checks by societynow.ng revealed that this talk is hinged on his ‘’body’’ language in relating with the political leaders that helped him to power.
The Governor is accused of sideling them in administering the state and yet to ‘’appreciate’’ their support with appointments.
‘’You don’t treat politicians like that, especially those that worked as hard as they did to help you to power if you want a second term in office’’ a source disclosed.
Societynow.ng gathered that the Governor is accused of giving major appointments to people who did not contribute ‘’politically’’ to his election and other positions to few politicians with personal loyalties to him.
Governor Abiodun is on his second year of a four-year term and insiders disclosed that the politicians have started a silent move against his second term in office as a protest of a sort.
Societynow.ng learned that former Governor Olusegun Osoba who gave his all to help Abiodun to the office now tells his aggrieved supporters to ‘’be patient, 2023 is around the corner’’.
2023 is the year to elect a new governor and the statement by Osoba is interpreted to mean plan to back a candidate that would be more appreciative of his group’s political support.
Societynow.ng’s checks revealed that while the Osoba camp is keeping its cards to its chest till 2023, the formidable group belonging to another former Governor Gbenga Daniel is more open with its plan.
Insiders disclosed that members of the group have started shopping for a candidate to support.
Sources disclosed that the Senator representing Ogun East, Lekan Mustapha appears to be the favorite at press time.
‘’Though it not yet iron cast…there is still a lot of room for another person to emerge, three years is a lot of time in politics the only thing that is established is that the candidate must come from Ogun East where D.A (Dapo Abiodun) is from’’ a source disclosed.
A popular gubernatorial aspirant who ferociously supported Abiodun and expected a huge return but was denied relevance and given only a ”pittance” recognition outside the state is also said to be hard at work to limit the governor to a second term in office.
Other groups, including the Gboyega Isiaka faction – despite their principal’s appointment – are said to be quietly fashioning out how the unraveling situation would benefit them as well.
Societynow.ng gathered that those shopping for Governor Abiodun’s replacement have zoned it to Ogun East because of the unspoken rule that Governor’s from any zone should enjoy the maximum two-term allowed by the constitution.
‘’Ogun East is a large vote area, picking a successor for Abiodun from the area is expected to assuage the feelings of the people from the zone, protect the votes from the area and prevent the opposition from cashing in on any form of ill-feeling in the area that may arise from working against Governor Abiodun’’ a source analyzed.
Societynow.ng learned that the Governor continues to shun the plot in the face of growing talks.
