The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed efforts to free regional agitator Sunday Igboho (real name Sunday Adeyemo).

Igboho is currently in detention in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

He was arrested on Monday while trying to travel from Benin to Germany as part of efforts to evade the clutches of the Nigerian Government.

The Government declared him a person of interest after an overnight raid of residence in Soka, Area of Oyo state failed to result in his arrest.

13 of his aides who were arrested in the raid are still in the custody of the Depart of State Service (DSS).

Igboho who escaped and refused to give himself up was arrested at an airport in Cotonou on Monday and has been remanded in detention while the court decides whether he should be extradited to Nigeria or allowed to continue his trip to Germany.

Reacting to a question on why leaders of the region, Southwest that Igboho agitated autonomy for have not publicly spoken in his favor since his arrest in Cotonou, Sanwo-Olu in a report monitored by societynow.ng on dailypost.ng stated

“These are very difficult times for all of us. I can assure you that people are working behind the scenes.

“At occasions like this, it’s not by how many press people you call.

“I’m aware that a lot of people have responses that they are doing quietly and privately and it doesn’t have to be a public conversation.”

Sanwo-Olu made the revelation after he cast his vote in today’s local government election in Lagos State.
