Details: NLC Temporarily Suspends Nationwide Strike

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended the nationwide strike and protest scheduled for today Monday, September 28, 2020.

The NLC suspended the strike based on government agreement to one of the two demands by Labour.

NLC agreed to suspend the nationwide strike for two weeks societynow.ng learned.

The government agreed to reverse the hike in electricity tariff while the increase in the pump price of petrol stays.

Societynow.ng gathered that the two weeks suspension of the strike by Labour is to allow the government perfect arrangement reached over the reversal in the hike in electricity tariff – including plans to make it bearable, if it is established to be inevitable by a joint committee of representatives of NLC and Government.

The joint committee is set up as part of the agreements that averted the nationwide strike.

Its objective is to look into the ‘’situation’’ holistically and determine whether the hike in electricity tariff is indeed inevitable and fashion out how to make it bearable for the citizens if it is.
