The handwritings are on the wall.

The former Governor of Ogun State Otunba Gbenga Daniel wants to become a Senator as part of his contribution to nation-building in the next political dispensation.

The 65year old gave strong indications of this interest at a meeting with supporters and related stakeholders at his base in Shagamu (Ogun State) on Friday, September 17, 2021.

The development validates talks about town that the owner of Electro-Mechanical Engineering Company, Kresta Laurel wants to take over the Ogun – East Senatorial seat from Ramoni Lekan Mustapha, 61.

Mustapha who was a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before he defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) – Like Daniel – is said to be eyeing the gubernatorial position of Ogun State.

Lekan Mustapha

Societynow.ng, however, gathered that talks of Mustapha’s gubernatorial ambition do not trouble Dapo Abiodun as much as Gbenga Daniel’s Senatorial ambition.

“Because they are from the same axis within their zone. In Ogun East, major political positions are shared between the Ijebus and the Remos.

Presently the Governorship position is in Remo and held by Dapo Abiodun while the Senatorial position is in Ijebu and held by Lekan Mustapha. For Daniel who is a Remo man to show interest in the Senatorial position, the indication is that the Governorship position or any other senior post zoned to Ogun East, in case there is a bigger agenda at play, should be given to an Ijebu man” societynow.ng gathered.

Interestingly, the Ijebu axis is perceived to be the larger voting area.

This analysis is said to be becoming popular in Ogun State by the minute amid different shades of interpretations and conjectures.

Dapo Abiodun

Added digs revealed that the move by Daniel takes power from emerging support and growing talks of a second term for Dapo Abiodun, 61, who is widely believed to have mastered governance in the state and is on the way to massive impacts across boards.

Further checks revealed that this perception is especially based on the fact that Gbenga Daniel is one of the coalitions of political powers that helped Abiodun to power in 2019.
