Details As Gov Ajimobi Causes Last Minute Troubles For Adelabu’s Guber Ambition

Information filtering in has it that the gubernatorial ambition of Adebayo Adelabu is experiencing last-minute troubles.

Societynow.ng checks revealed this development has roots in Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s refusal to play a reduced role in Adelabu’s gubernatorial campaign.

Societynow.ng learned that Governor Ajimobi, based on a strong recommendation from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu handed the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial ticket in Oyo state to Adelabu.

As the party leader in Oyo state Ajimobi was naturally at the forefront of the campaign of the man positioned to be his successor.

But the governor suffered a shocking reversal of fortune when he suffered an embarrassing defeat in his bid to become a Senator.

Protest votes by the electorates gave Ajimobi a bloody nose in the Senatorial contest.

In a strategic attempt not to let the ‘’ill feeling’’ against Ajiomobi rub off on the gubernatorial campaign of Adelabu, the governor was advised to ‘’step back’’ a bit in the handling of things.

‘’The plan was to put Ajimobi the background while other popular chieftains work on winning the electorates over, especially in the areas the governor was famously rejected’’ a source explained.

Insiders disclosed Ajimobi is intensely resisting the move and instead wants to be more involved and at the forefront of the gubernatorial campaign more than ever.

This development is said to be causing friction in the top echelon of Adelabu’s campaign group as relates to how to handle Ajimobi without putting the whole gubernatorial project at risk.

Insiders disclosed the situation is especially grave with Tinubu bringing back former governor Alao Akala – Ajimobi’s political adversary – to join the push to make Adelabu the next governor of Oyo state.

In defence of Ajimobi a source stated ‘’you can’t really blame the governor. He is fighting for his political relevance, if he steps back and Adelabu wins, the history would be that it was Tinubu and Akala that came to Oyo state to rescue him from the shame of looming gubernatorial defeat. He doesn’t want that kind of narrative woven around his name’’.

Societynow.ng gathered that there is also a belief that ‘’Ajimobi is refusing to back down from leading Adelabu’s gubernatorial campaign so that he can use it to negotiate for national appointment based on claims he delivered the state if the candidate wins’’.

The APC has won the Presidential election and a larger percentage of the National Assembly seats.

‘’Which is what Tinubu is attempting to do as well. To be able to take credit for a win and muster bigger influence in putting his men in key positions just that Ajimobi with his senatorial defeat is now seen as creating trouble by refusing to stay in the background of the gubernatorial campaign ’’ a source stated.
