Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons have been rescued by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force after spending three days in captivity.

The victims were abducted on June 3 while Mrs. Adegoke was driving her children to school in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Saturday, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, force public relations officer, said the victims were rescued during a coordinated operation carried out by the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).

The police spokesperson said the operation took place in Ibadan at about 7:30 pm on June 6.

According to the statement, the rescue followed days of intensive intelligence gathering and surveillance by operatives tracking the kidnappers.

“The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations. These efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, resulting in a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives,” the statement reads.

The police said two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded during the operation, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.

“During the confrontation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and two rifles were recovered. The victims were rescued unharmed and are now in safe custody, receiving medical care and support,” the statement added.

The Inspector-General of Police commended the officers involved in the operation, describing their actions as courageous and professional.

“Their resilience and commitment were instrumental in the safe rescue of the hostages,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.

The police also disclosed that efforts have been intensified to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.

According to the force, preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the fleeing suspects sustained gunshot injuries.

“Operations are ongoing to track, arrest, and bring all involved to justice,” the statement said.

The police thanked members of the public for their support and cooperation during the operation, while reiterating their commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring the safety of citizens across the country.
