Details: Amosun’s Ace With Tinubu & Why The President’s Opponents Want Him
As alignment and realignment take shape
It is no longer news.
The race to determine who controls political power beyond the next general election has become intense.
And this development is particularly apparent within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), where President Bola Tinubu is decorated with the ambition of a second term.
As alignment and realignment take shape, one name has been catching attention—Ibikunle Amosun, the former two-term Governor of Ogun State.
“Everybody wants him in their corner, and it is because of his ace with President Tinubu,” a source stated.
This “ace” is described as a rare character trait for a politician, especially for one of his stature.
“You always know where you stand with SIA (Senator Ibikunle Amosun). Once he makes a pledge, he stays committed to it. That is one trait the President has come to respect and like about the former Governor. It has cemented ties between them,” sources insist.

Interestingly, insiders disclosed that this quality is also the allure for those who do not share the same political leaning with the President.
The former two-term Governor (May 29, 2011, to May 29, 2019) and immediate past Senator representing Ogun Central (June 2019 to June 2023) is the owner of one of the four most formidable political structures in Ogun State—with a fanatical following.
Aside from this, Amosun, who stepped down his presidential aspiration to back Tinubu’s emergence as the party candidate during the June 2022 APC presidential election, also possesses a high-profile network of influence at the top echelon of the ruling party.
The household name in Ogun State politics also remains one of the closest persons to former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose support base in Northern Nigeria is rabid and vital for electoral victory in the region and the country.
