“Black Maria” Roam The Streets As Special Squad Hunts No Movement Order Offenders

The special vehicle used by police to transport offenders, usually prisoners, is on the loose – in Lagos State.

Societynow.ng gathered that offenders of the no-movement order in the fierce fight against the spread of Coronavirus ( Covid-19) are being clamped into the vehicle in different parts of the state as the special squad set up to ensure compliance hunts the lawbreakers putting others at risk of infection.

“Once they are caught, those who are walking the streets and not part of the essential service providers are clamped into the Black Maria and taken away” a source stated.

“But the aged are spared this nasty experience based on a situation I witnessed” a source stated.

The Lagos State House of Assembly gave legal backing to the arrest of those who do not abide by the no-movement order with the passage of a bill that stipulates the payment of a fine of between N100,000 and N200,000 and prison term of a month or two for those apprehended.
