A major supporter of Timpre Sylva, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Bayelsa State gubernatorial election has switched camps.
Faye Jacob, a strong ally and cousin of the Sylva has joined efforts to return Governor Duoye Diri as the Governor of Bayelsa.
Diri who is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is seeking a second term in office.
The Bayelsa gubernatorial election is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023.
Faye Jacob’s defection from Sylva’s camp comes on the heels of the disqualification of the APC candidate by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court ruled that if allowed to contest and he wins, he would spend more than the constitutionally allowed eight years – against the background that he had been sworn in twice and ruled for a cumulative period of five years.
Sylva and the APC are exploring legal means out of the ruling.
