Baruwa: I Remain NURTW National Chairman — MC Oluomo Insists
following a dramatic takeover of its national secretariat
Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, national president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has insisted that he remains the legitimate leader of the union following a dramatic takeover of its national secretariat in Abuja by Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa.
Baruwa had earlier on Monday reportedly stormed the NURTW national headquarters and took control of the complex, citing a court judgment said to be in his favour, before law enforcement agencies intervened to restore order.
In a statement issued hours after the incident, Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, distanced himself from the judgment referenced by Baruwa, stating that he “was not a defendant in the purported judgement.”

He added that the ruling being relied upon had already been challenged in court, noting that “the judgement has been appealed and a stay of execution has been duly entered.”
MC Oluomo also said he had deliberately avoided any engagement with Baruwa or other parties in the dispute due to ongoing legal proceedings.
“He has not engaged with Mr. Baruwa or any individual, aware that cases are pending in court,” he declared in a statement he personally signed.

The transport union boss assured members that the situation was under control, disclosing that security agencies had stepped in. “The situation is under the control of security agencies,” he said.
Reaffirming his position, Akinsanya declared that he “remains the National President of NURTW,” while urging members across the country to remain calm.
He called on union members to be “peaceful, law-abiding, and to maintain peace and order in their respective areas,” amid rising tensions following the attempted takeover.
