Army Dismisses Allegations Of Power Struggle, Welfare Neglect In 90 Battalion As “Malicious Blackmail”
describing them as a calculated attempt to smear
The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has debunked reports alleging internal power tussles, welfare neglect, and financial exploitation within the 90 Battalion in Koko, describing them as a calculated attempt to smear the command structure and undermine the integrity of the military.
Reacting to the viral publication on Tuesday, the Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, said the claims circulating on social media were “unsubstantiated, malicious and aimed at blackmailing the institution.”
He stressed that postings and deployments within the Army are routine exercises carried out without bias or consideration for religion, loyalty or any other primordial sentiment, contrary to the insinuations being promoted online.
According to him, the Commanding Officer of the 90 Battalion has continued to discharge his duties professionally and in line with established procedures guiding administrative matters in the Army. He warned that personnel who bypass internal complaint channels to peddle false narratives risk being seen as engaging in institutional blackmail.
Danjuma reiterated that the Army maintains zero tolerance for corruption, welfare abuse, religious bias in postings or any form of misconduct among its ranks. He added that while the allegations are baseless, any traceable infractions — particularly those relating to extortion — would be thoroughly investigated.
He urged members of the public to dismiss the claims, assuring residents of the Niger Delta region that the Division remains committed to safeguarding lives and maintaining security across its areas of responsibility.
The Army spokesperson emphasised that the force will not be distracted by what he described as deliberate fabrications aimed at eroding public trust, insisting that professionalism and accountability remain central to its operations.
