Aregbesola In Meeting With Kwankwaso Amid Quarrel With Tinubu
the founder of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)
Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, held a meeting with Rabiu Kwankwaso.
“The meeting afforded us the opportunity to engage in discussions on national politics, governance, and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape,” Kwankwaso disclosed on social media after leaving Aregbesola’s Lagos residence.
The development comes amid unresolved differences between Aregbesola and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his political mentor.
The political face-off between the President and the former governor recently snowballed into Aregbesola’s expulsion from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Osun State chapter of the party.

Kwankwaso is the founder of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the group informally known as the “Red Cap Revolution.”
He was the presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 election that brought Tinubu to power.
To his credit, Aregbesola had distanced himself from the mainstream APC in Osun and at the national level, going on to become a major influence with a new group, Omoluabi Progressives, before his expulsion was announced.
Saturday’s meeting with Kwankwaso gives credence to claims in some quarters that Aregbesola is being heavily lobbied to join a new political movement aimed at taking over the federal government from the APC and Tinubu in the next general election.
