The growing popularity of one of the leading contenders for the successor of incumbent governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter just suffered a big blow.
Mr Willie Obaino, the Ex Director at financial institution, Fidelity Bank and the candidate of political party, APGA was caught cheating on in a debate for contestants.
The banker of about 24years experience was apprehended by candidate flying the banner of Labour Party, Mr Ifeanyi Uba to ridiculing laughter from all present.
The Ex Director Business banking, Fidelity Bank plc was caught with smuggled in answers in to the hall.
The action was contrary to rules of engagement that all other contenders adhered to.
The disgraceful episode caught on live Television broadcast, transpired on Saturday November 2 2013 at the Women Development Center, Awka venue of the gubernatorial debate.
Strangely the organisers had assured all stakeholders there no one had fore knowledge of the questions.
At the scene of the occurrence, Uba had walked up to Obiano in the course of answering a question and branded up the sheaf of papers he was glimpsing answers from, for all to see.
The hall had erupted in derisive laughter, while the apprehended reputed to enjoy the backing of Governor Peter Obi hung his head.
Sources on ground confirmed the development has earned Obiano the street appellation ‘Cheat’, and hugely tainted his growing popularity.
Opponents are using the episode to create a slump for him in the campaign.
And according to a keen observer of events ‘ he has lost quite a few admirers with that cheating antics, particularly sticklers for a good name and integrity’.
Meanwhile the man that caught Obiano red handed, Mr Ifeanyi Uba has called for the APGA candidates withdrawal from the November 16 Anambra Gubernatorial elections.
Uba in a statement asserts that Obiano should ‘matter of decency, hide his head in shame and drop out of the race for cheating…’
The capital oil boss facing allegations of troubled businesses of his own went further charge people of the state ‘to vow that such a person who has no respect for rules would not be allowed to govern Anambra State. He said cheating was cheating and that anybody who cheats in small matters will also cheat in great one’
