Finally, President Jonathan Moves Against Governor Akpabio Over Excessive Spending, Dolling Out Of Largesse To Presidential Aides

The spending habit of Governor of Akwa Ibom state- Godswill Akpabio is finally coming home to haunt him.

The attitude is gradually pitching him at opposing sides with his principal, President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sources confirmed the nation’s number one man is not comfortable with Akpabio’s growing popularity among the presidential staff and aides, particularly those charged with security based on his spending habit.

Insiders revealed the state Governor credited with dishing out a million Naira each, for lunch to party leaders- has developed an attitude of handing out monetary gifts to presidential aides of all cadre whenever he comes visiting.

Sources maintain the state governor usual hands out foreign currency- especially dollars.

The situation is said to have become so popular and garnered the passionate advocate of Jonathan’s re election bid ‘a following’ that potential beneficiaries make extra effort to be around whenever Akpabio is likely to come visiting.

And as a supposed key element in the political manoeuvres of Mr Jonathan within his party ( People’s Democratic Party), this visits are labelled ‘quite frequent until recently.

Insiders revealed analysis of the security implication of Akapbio’s action resulted in steps that curtailed his visits to the presidency.

Sources confirmed amongst the interpretation given to the president was, ‘buying the loyalty of those conversant with his itinerary and those that ordinarily have access to him day in, day out’

Another interpretation is that the action could serve as a spring board of opposition against the President (amongst staff and aides) right under his nose.

The President was said to have initiated a subtle rebuff of Akpabio’s visits.

Maintained a source ‘he now experiences turn backs and waits like any other person’

Informants further revealed the state head that bankrolled guests to the wedding of a favoured entertainer- staged abroad – was hinted of ‘his offence’, when efforts to fast track meetings with the President were turned down by first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

Sources explained that the Governor accused of not spending much time in his state is mend fences with his principal.
