After 3 extensions of their terms, societynow.ng learned that council chairmen in Ogun state are about to get another six months in office.

The last extension of their stay in office ended on January 17, 2020.

Governor Dapo Abiodun though has not officially spoken on what happens next, is said to be mulling another six months stay for the 20 council chairmen in Ogun state.

“The plan is to keep them in office for another six months, end of June or July” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed that the primary reason for this move is two-pronged.

“The governor wants to use the opportunity to get a better handle on politics and governance at the grassroots and funding of local council election not seen as a priority compared to other developmental projects at hand” societynow.ng learned.

Sources disclosed that the move to extend the tenure of the 20 council chairmen in Ogun State by the governor has, however, resulted in grumbling in political circles, especially among those seeking to contest and their backers.

There are strong possibilities that opponents of the governor that have not been able to hit him hard in recent time may latch onto the opportunity to score a political point or two societynow.ng learned.

The majority of the incumbent council bosses are said to have turned loyalists of Abiodun based on the kind of rapport he has cultivated with them.

The Ogun State House of Assembly is expected to announce the new extension of the tenure of the council chairmen based on communication from the Governor.
