The “star boy” of Ladi Adebutu’s political game plan to secure his long-sought victory against Governor Dapo Abiodun has been revealed.

Insiders say he is Oluwole Bolarinwa Adekunbi, the politician popularly known as “Abo.”

Insiders say Adebutu is working to make Abo the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the highly anticipated Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency by-election.

Hailing from Itin Nla quarters in Sagamu, Ogun State, Abo was the PDP candidate for the same position in the 2023 general election.

The Federal House of Representatives seat became vacant following the shocking demise of Adewunmi Onanuga on January 15, 2025.

Onanuga, famously known as “Ijaiya,” was a second-term federal legislator and was serving as the Deputy Chief Whip in the Green Chamber at the time of her death.

The development has opened another chance for Adebutu to pursue a long-sought political victory against Governor Abiodun.

Abiodun

Adebutu, who is the driving force behind the PDP in Ogun State, hails from the same local government area as Governor Abiodun, who is ruling the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Although Adebutu possesses a more formidable political structure and is a better-known name in Ogun State politics, he has not recorded any political victory – directly or indirectly- against Abiodun since the latter became governor in 2019.

The situation became even more frustrating for Adebutu and his supporters with the back-to-back losses suffered by the PDP in the 2023 Ogun State gubernatorial and local government elections—especially because Adebutu was the PDP governorship candidate.

“So, the upcoming House of Representatives by-election is being considered a major opportunity to secure redemption from the losses,” sources say.

Insiders insist Adebutu and his team are upbeat about what is to come, based on the factors they consider to be in their favor.
