Emerging details have it that with the election less than a month, insiders insist that Salisu Shaib Afolabi, the former Chief of Staff of the Governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun faces an uphill task in the bid to succeed Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Salisu is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat currently occupied by Amosun who is not seeking another term in office.

Insiders disclose that Amosun has re-awaken his foot soldiers in his stronghold with touching life gestures and they have started a vigorous campaign to protect his interest.

“And Amosun’s interest does not align with Salisu’s” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Amosun’s declaration of interest in the APC Presidential ticket before pledging support for presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ruled him out of the Ogun Central Senatorial race.

Salisu won the ticket on the strength of being one of the key men of Governor Abiodun who outplayed Amosun to take firm control of the APC in Ogun state.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that although Amosun is openly siding with Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to win the Ogun state governorship election, the party has no senatorial candidate in Ogun Central.

“But his men are siding with Olumide Aderinokun against Salisu in the Senatorial contest” according to the information here and there.

Aderinokun is the Senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun Central.

The information available revealed that based on perception on the street, Aderinokun appears more popular than Salisu, except in the latter’s stronghold in Odeda.

“So as it is Salisu is facing the combination of the formidable Amosun and popular Aderinokun, he is in for a major task” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

SocietyNow.Ng learned that added to the challenges facing Salisu is the talks that Amosun is galvanizing his supporters to canvass for votes in such a manner that the results of the March 25, 2023, federal elections for his preferred candidates will leave no one in doubt who is in charge, particularly in his stronghold – ahead of March 11, 2023, Governorship and other elective positions in the states.
