The Peoples Democratic Party has officially commenced its campaign for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, with its Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, declaring that a movement to restore good governance in the state has begun.
Obasanjo made the declaration while standing alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, and his running mate, Dr Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, at the campaign flag-off in the heart of Egbaland.
She said the turnout of party supporters, traditional leaders, grassroots mobilisers and residents from Ogun Central demonstrated a growing demand for a change in the state’s leadership.
“Standing here today surrounded by such incredible energy, the message is unequivocal, the movement to restore good governance to Ogun State has officially begun,” Obasanjo said.
According to her, Ogun needed “a new direction” anchored on accountability, economic revival and commitment to the development of all local government areas.
She said the PDP campaign would focus on issues affecting residents directly, including local infrastructure and community empowerment.
“Our state needs a new direction, one rooted in accountability, economic revival, and genuine commitment to every local government area,” she said.
Obasanjo added that residents had “waited long enough for a government that puts their everyday needs first.”
She said the campaign would take the PDP’s message of effective representation and grassroots development to wards and households across the state.
“We are taking this vision of effective representation and grassroots progress straight to every ward and every household,” she said.
The campaign flag-off comes as political parties and their candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship contest in Ogun State.
