Osun Guber: Fadahunsi Explains Controversial Declaration Drawing Unwanted Attention

Ahead of the governorship election in Osun State, the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, has clarified his recent controversial statements regarding political violence, explaining that his remarks were manipulated to misrepresent his message.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, Senator Fadahunsi debunked a viral video clip drawing him unwanted attention describing it as a selective edit designed to achieve cheap political objectives.
Fadahunsi, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries, explained that his original comments were made in response to ongoing violent attacks targeted at members of his party in Ilesa and other parts of the state.
“My attention has been drawn to an edited video being circulated by Davido and Pelumi Olajengbesi. The video was deliberately edited to distort what I actually said,” Fadahunsi stated.
Adding, “What I said was that if the alleged killing of our party members by Accord Party thugs does not stop, our party will retaliate. I was referring to the continued violence and attacks against our members in Ilesa and other parts of the state.”
The lawmaker expressed dismay that a speech lasting nearly 24 minutes was reduced to under two minutes to mislead the public, noting that his intention was to demand justice and warn against unprovoked hostility toward his constituents.
“My statement was very clear: if the killings do not stop, we shall also retaliate. We are here to lodge complaints and demand justice. It is unacceptable for human beings to kill fellow human beings the way our members are allegedly being killed in Ilesa,” he stressed.
Detailing recent security breaches in the area, the senator disclosed that over 12 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had lost their lives in separate attacks, referencing incidents at Kajola Junction, the Igbogi area of Ilesa, and Esa-Oke. He criticized the state government for failing to issue an adequate statement condemning the killings or providing firm assurances regarding public safety.
Despite the rising tension, the lawmaker urged voters across Ijesaland to maintain peace, reject electoral violence, and exercise their civic duty peacefully on election day.
“Elections should be about ideas, policies and the choice of the people, not violence and bloodshed,” Fadahunsi said.
And, included “I urge all eligible voters and residents across Ijesa land to embrace peace. I call on everyone to remain calm, reject violence and come out peacefully on Saturday to exercise their civic responsibility by voting for the party of their choice.”
