No Lives Lost As Federal Mortgage Bank Assesses Damage After Abuja HQ Fire

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) has confirmed that no lives were lost after a fire broke out at its head office in the Central Business District of Abuja on Saturday night, saying the full extent of the damage is yet to be determined.

In a statement issued by the bank’s Group Head, Corporate Communications, Joe Abuku, the fire affected parts of the second floor of the headquarters building a few minutes after 8 p.m.

The bank said combined teams from the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service responded swiftly to the incident, bringing the blaze under control before it could spread further.

“This is to inform the general public that an unfortunate fire incident occurred on parts of the second floor of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) Head Office in the Central Business District of Abuja, at a few minutes past 8pm on Saturday,” the statement said.

It added: “Combined teams from the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service quickly deployed to the building were able to contain the flames and bring the fire under control. Thankfully, no injuries were recorded.”

The bank said investigations had commenced to determine the cause of the fire, while officials were also assessing the extent of the damage caused by the incident.

“Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the fire. A detailed statement will be issued once we determine the extent of damage,” it stated.

FMBN expressed appreciation to emergency responders and members of the public for their concern and support, particularly commending the Police and Fire Service for their prompt intervention.

“We thank our stakeholders and the public for their concern and support. We particularly thank the Police and Fire Service for their quick response to the situation which helped to immediately put out the fire,” the statement added.
