The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) wishes to update the general public on the fire incident that occurred on the second floor of its Head Office in Abuja, the night of Saturday, 1st August, 2026.

The fire was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to other parts of the building. Whilst there has been some damage to office furniture, equipment and appliances in the affected areas, we are grateful to report that official documents that were affected are, thanks to technology; securely backed up electronically, with cloud storage, in line with the Bank’s digital transformation measures.

Investigations and evaluations to establish the cause of the fire are still ongoing.

The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria hereby reassures all stakeholders, customers, and the general public that this unfortunate development has not compromised the Bank’s operations. Appropriate business continuity and mitigation measures are in place to ensure minimal disruption to service delivery. The office remains open for normal business.

We continue to express our profound appreciation to the Fire Service, the Police, members of staff and all stakeholders whose cooperation and timely response helped to rein in the situation.

The Bank will provide further updates as new information comes to light.
