While rejoicing with Nigerians during this festive period, the Controller General calls on the public to prioritize fire safety and general caution to prevent avoidable incidents that may mar the celebration.

* Never leave cooking unattended, especially when using gas or open flames.

* Avoid wearing flowing gowns or long sleeves while cooking, as they can easily catch fire.

* Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.

* Ensure proper ventilation when using gas cylinders and store them outside the kitchen area.

* Do not overload electrical outlets or use substandard extension cords.

* Turn off all electrical appliances when not in use, particularly when leaving the house.

* Keep flammable materials such as curtains, paper, or cloth away from heat sources.

* Ensure functional fire extinguishers are accessible at home and during outdoor festivities.

The Controller General reassured Nigerians of the Federal Fire Service’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He reiterated that firefighters across the country remain on standby and are fully prepared to respond swiftly to emergencies.

Citizens are encouraged to report any fire incidents or emergencies by contacting the nearest fire station or calling the Federal Fire Service emergency number: 0803 200 3557.
