Abuja-based lawyer and House of Representatives aspirant, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has broken his silence on the recent defection of Wole Oke from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as desperate and uninspiring.

In a recent statement, Olajengbesi said he had chosen not to speak about Oke despite the “ill treatment and betrayal of trust” he experienced in the past, but could no longer stay silent after seeing a video of Oke’s decamping ceremony in his hometown, Esa Oke.

“The video was laughable,” Olajengbesi said. “It was a dry and uninspiring gathering with less than five unremarkable individuals standing with him. Even the APC members who received them were amused.”

Olajengbesi, who contested against Oke twice for the House of Representatives seat in Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, said he had once stepped down from the race out of respect for party elders and based on Oke’s personal assurance that he was done contesting and would support his next campaign.

“True to his typical deceitful fashion, he went behind to lobby for another automatic ticket after 20 years in office,” he said. “When the party insisted on a primary, he couldn’t handle it and decided to decamp—despite swearing never to leave the PDP.”

He accused Oke of making the move purely out of desperation to return to the National Assembly, calling the event “a farewell party masquerading as a welcome.”

Olajengbesi noted that no single stakeholder in Ijesa North followed Oke to the APC and dismissed the efforts of his media handlers to inflate the event’s significance. “It was a lone movement,” he said.

He further criticized Oke’s long tenure, stating that he had “little or nothing to show for it” and had become addicted to political office.

“The future belongs to those with fresh ideas and integrity. Even President Tinubu at some point stepped aside to rebuild. But Wole Oke believes power is a birthright. Unfortunately for him, the people have moved on,” he said.

Olajengbesi concluded by expressing confidence that APC members themselves would reject Oke’s ambition, adding, “It is well.”
