Viewers on DStv can look forward to the eighth round of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship, the Grand Prix of Germany, live from the Sachsenring Racing Circuit in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany on the afternoon of Sunday 20 June 2021 at 12:55pm on SuperSport Variety 1 (DStv channel 206).

The seventh round at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain earlier this month saw Miguel Oliveira of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing claim his first win of the season.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo started on pole position for the fifth race in succession but could only manage a sixth-place finish after he picked up two time penalties, the second of which was for riding with his leather suit open.

Despite the result, the Frenchman continues to lead the way on the Riders’ Championship standings with 115 points accumulated thus far. Fellow countryman Johann Zarco of Pramac Racing is 14 points back in second, following his second-place finish in Spain.

Jack Miller, Francesco Bagnaia and defending champion Joan Mir round off the top five while six-time world champion Marc Marquez continues to struggle following a third race retirement in a row.

“Everything was so hard: tyre management, keeping cool when Fabio was putting the pressure on me for so many laps,” said Oliveira following his win in Spain.

“I kept really cool when he overtook me. I saw my chance on the straight and overtook him back. It was the perfect race.”

The Grand Prix of Germany is a staple on the MotoGP circuit but wasn’t held last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Marc Marquez has won the last seven MotoGP races at Sachsenring Racing Circuit, while he has a total of 10 race wins in Germany across three categories.
