An increasing number of politicians are eyeing the Lagos West Senatorial seat currently occupied by former Deputy Governor Idiat Oluranti Adebule.

Insider reports suggest that this surge in interest stems from ongoing political realignments and strategic calculations.

Adebule, who succeeded Solomon Olamilekan Adeola—now the Senator representing Ogun West—is rumored to be pegged for a single term.

“She was given the senatorial seat as part of Asiwaju (President Bola Ahmed Tinubu)’s broader strategy to balance competing political interests within the senatorial district and the state ahead of the 2023 election. However, the political landscape has shifted as the 2027 election approaches,” a source disclosed.

According to insiders, “negotiations” over who will take over the Lagos West Senatorial seat have become a focal point in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as the party works to consolidate its position ahead of the 2027 state and federal elections.

This maneuvering is particularly crucial given the belief that President Tinubu, who lost Lagos State in 2023, is positioning himself for a second-term bid in 2027.

“Several influential politicians who were sidelined when Adebule emerged as the candidate in 2023 have now declared interest and are actively mobilizing to reclaim the senatorial seat—including a recently displaced power broker,” sources revealed.

The once discreet power struggle has now spilled into open discussions among party members and stakeholders, setting the stage for an intense political contest.
