Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, the Federal House of Representatives member who threatened to make a Bolt driver “disappear” without consequence while assaulting him, has been arraigned on criminal charges over the offense.
The police arraigned Ikwechegh today after completing the investigation of the case brought by the victim, Stephen Abuwatseya.
The victimization of an everyday Nigerian simply trying to make an honest living by an elected official has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice.
The federal lawmaker, who boasted he was untouchable and taunted the victim to call the Inspector General of Police for help in a video while assaulting him, issued a public apology amid a fierce outcry on Tuesday.
However, an update released by the police on Wednesday shows he could face a prison term for his conduct.
A statement signed by Force Spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, revealed Ikwechegh has been arraigned on criminal charges.
The statement reads…
