The governorship ambition of the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, received a major boost on Monday as traditional leaders and community stakeholders across Ijeun land in Abeokuta openly declared their support for his bid to become the next governor of the state.

Adebutu, who is the Mayegun of Ijeun in Egbaland, was presented as the preferred choice of the people during a gathering held at the Ijeun Town Hall, Abeokuta, where representatives of the 13 traditional sections of Ijeun land endorsed his aspiration.

The endorsement was conveyed by the Apena of Ijeun, Chief Lukman Olusanya, who represented the Oluwo of Ijeun, alongside the Ekerin of Ijeun, Chief Sunday Oduntan, Baales and other community leaders.

The gathering brought together a broad spectrum of traditional and community institutions, including all the Baales of Ijeun, the Ologuns, Oloroguns, Parakoyis, Erelus, as well as representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional sections, Chief Olusanya said the people of Ijeun had resolved to support Adebutu’s governorship ambition, describing him as a worthy son of the soil with the capacity to lead Ogun State.

He says the endorsement reflected the collective position of the various traditional and community groups that make up Ijeun land.

“We are presenting Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu as our choice for the Ogun State governorship seat,” he declared.

The traditional leaders noted that the decision followed consultations across the various sections of the community and represented a united position in support of Adebutu’s aspiration.

The endorsement is expected to strengthen the PDP candidate’s political standing in Abeokuta and further boost his campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

For Adebutu, the backing of the traditional institutions in his home base is being seen by political observers as a significant morale booster as the race for the Ogun Government House gradually gathers momentum.

The event ended with prayers and blessings from traditional leaders and representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities, who wished the PDP flag bearer success in his quest to govern the state.
