President Bola Tinubu was received with full royal honours on Wednesday as Britain staged a colourful ceremonial welcome marked by trumpets, mounted cavalry, horse-drawn carriages and a gun salute.

The Nigerian president, accompanied by First Lady Remi Tinubu, was welcomed by King Charles III and Queen Camilla in a spectacle of British pageantry that blended centuries-old tradition with modern diplomacy.

The reception, held in the historic surroundings of Windsor Castle, unfolded with ceremonial grandeur as mounted cavalry escorted the presidential delegation while a fanfare of trumpets and the boom of a gun salute signalled the formal welcome.

Tinubu later described the meeting with the British monarch as a significant moment in the evolving relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

“Thank you, Your Majesty, King Charles III, for the warm welcome in Windsor today,” the president said after the meeting.

“Our meeting this afternoon further strengthened my resolve in the strength of the partnership between our two countries,” he added.

The Nigerian leader said both nations remain bound by a shared history and a common vision for the future.

“Nigeria and the United Kingdom remain united by shared purpose, history, and a clear vision for the future,” he added.

The visit also sets the stage for further diplomatic engagements between both countries, including a royal banquet later in the evening.

Tinubu expressed optimism about the continued engagement, noting that he was “looking forward to the Royal Banquet this evening.”

Images from the ceremony captured the vibrant colours and symbolism of the occasion — from the disciplined formation of cavalry officers and the gleaming horse-drawn carts to the ceremonial fanfare that accompanied the president’s arrival.

The spectacle underscored the enduring diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Britain, even as both countries seek to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and strategic partnerships.

The photographs of the Windsor reception were released by the Nigerian presidency through The Aso Villa media office, with images credited to presidential photographer Nosa Asemota.
