As Christians across the globe celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, used the occasion of Easter to reflect on the spiritual significance of the season and its profound parallels with the collective journey of the people of Akwa Ibom.

In a statewide broadcast, Governor Eno offered a message rooted in hope, gratitude and the firm belief that the spirit of resurrection can inspire a new era of development, sacrifice, and shared progress.

He began by extending warm Easter greetings, invoking the peace of the Risen Christ to abide with all, and reminding citizens of the central message of Easter: love, hope, redemption, and triumph over adversity.

According to him, Easter is a season that calls for selfless service, sacrifice, and unwavering faith—values that mirror the mission and character of Christ Himself. Quoting Matthew 20:28, the Governor emphasized that just as Christ came not to be served but to serve, his administration was also called to serve the people with humility and compassion.

Governor Eno acknowledged the difficult economic terrain facing not only Akwa Ibom but the world at large, drawing a powerful parallel between Christ’s suffering on the cross and the trials many citizens endure. Yet, just as Christ rose in victory, he expressed confidence that Akwa Ibom too would rise, stronger and more united. He noted that through prudent management of resources, the fog of uncertainty is beginning to lift, and the state is gradually stepping into a future that is clearer and more predictable.

With heartfelt gratitude, the Governor thanked the people for their patience, prayers, and faith in his government.

He credited their unwavering support as a vital force behind the achievements recorded so far.

True to the promise of running a Christ-centric and people-oriented administration, he said his government has remained focused on placing the welfare of the people at the core of its activities. While embarking on several capital-intensive projects across infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, housing, and transportation, the administration has also prioritized the needs of the most vulnerable members of society.

He highlighted the construction of over 205 Arise Compassionate Homes, monthly financial support to 600 elders through the Arise Elderly Care Initiative, and the ongoing work at the ARISE Senior Citizens Centre.

He announced the enrollment of over 15,000 vulnerable individuals in the Arise Care Insurance Scheme, an achievement that earned the state national recognition. He also revealed that the administration has paid over ₦60 billion from the ₦98 billion gratuity backlog inherited from previous administrations, restoring dignity and comfort to retired public servants. In addition, the distribution of free food vouchers to the poorest residents and the launch of various youth support programmes have further demonstrated the administration’s commitment to inclusive development.

Governor Eno emphasized that his government is also focused on long-term transformation.

Massive infrastructure development is underway, with 766 kilometers of roads under construction across the state. Turnkey projects such as the Ibom Model Farms, Model Health Centres, Model Primary Schools, the ARISE Resort, the International Convention Centre, and the revitalization of Ibom Hotels are strategically designed to position Akwa Ibom as a leading tourism and investment destination in Nigeria.

He expressed satisfaction that the administration’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, citing recognitions from national and international bodies including Governor of the Year awards by Thisday Newspaper, Arise News, Leadership Newspaper, and the New Telegraph. Additional accolades have come from the Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce and Security Watch Africa.

In closing, Governor Eno encouraged the people to stay hopeful and united, urging continued prayers and support as the state journeys toward greater heights. He reminded them that just as Jesus Christ rose after enduring suffering, Akwa Ibom too will continue to rise and shine.

He reiterated his belief that the foundations for growth are solid and that the path ahead is one of expansion, opportunity, and inclusive prosperity. He invited all to join the Easter Evening of Hymns on Monday, April 21st, at the International Christian Worship Center in Uyo as part of the season’s celebration. He ended with a blessing of joy, peace, and unity for all, declaring, “Happy Easter to us all.”
