CGC Adeniyi Speaks As Customs Police Unit Wins Zone ‘A’ Games

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has charged officers to uphold discipline, teamwork, and strategic thinking in their daily operations, describing these virtues as vital lessons drawn from sports.
Adeniyi gave the charge on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at the grand finale of the Zone ‘A’ Inter-Command Games hosted at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos.
Congratulating the Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Mohammed Babandede, and the organizing committee for a seamless tournament, the CGC noted that the event exemplified the three core pillars of his leadership framework: consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.
“I’ve seen those three pillars displayed exceptionally well this evening,” Adeniyi remarked.
He emphasized that sports offer crucial values that must guide the professional and personal conduct of officers, particularly the spirit of joint action.
“Whether you’re working in pairs or as a group, we need to cultivate that element of team spirit and teamwork. We must always look out for one another in everything we do. The virtues of discipline, teamwork, and strategy are the key takeaways from a competition like this,” Adeniyi stated.
On the pitch, the Customs Police Unit claimed the tournament’s top honour, edging out a combined team from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command and the Lagos Industrial Area Command with a tight 1–0 victory.
Celebrating the win, the Acting Provost Marshal and Head of the Customs Police Unit, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Salauwa Sanusi, attributed their triumph to rigorous groundwork. “Everything boils down to preparedness. When you set your house in order and prepare thoroughly, the result will always be outstanding and that is exactly what played out today,” Sanusi said.
The closing ceremony concluded with the presentation of individual honors, including the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, alongside trophies for commands that excelled in badminton, table tennis, and chess.
