Abidemi Rufai, the Senior Special Adviser suspended by Governor Dapo Abiodun when news of his arrest for alleged wire fraud broke out is trying to clean up.
News of Rufai’s arrest in the United States for allegedly defrauding the Washington State Employment Security Department of over $350,000 wire fraud broke yesterday – Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
He was reportedly arrested on Friday at the JFK Airport in New York according to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western District of Washington on Monday.
A report monitored by societynow.ng on neusroom revealed the suspect was on his way back to Nigeria when he was arrested.
Governor Abiodun announced his suspension from office barely hours after the news hit town in a move that distances the number one citizen of Ogun State – and his administration – from the unraveling mess.
Emerging details revealed that while the media and shocked friends and associates feasted on his situation, the suspect was making a stealth attempt at “cleaning up” from custody.
According to a report monitored by societynow.ng on neusroom.ng , the suspended political appointee deleted all the posts on his Instagram page.
“His Instagram page, which had 96 posts and more than 4,000 followers as at 11pm on Monday May 17, was locked when Neusroom checked again at 3am on Tuesday May 18. All the posts on the page have been deleted.

Most of the posts on the IG page seen by Neusroom before they were deleted are photos of Rufai and Dapo Abiodun” the news platform which is doing an extensive investigation into the fraud allegation reported.
Rufai, who was appointed by Governor Abiodun as a Senior Special Adviser on Housing in less than a year ago is facing up to 30years in prison if found guilty.
The politician who operated under the alleged alias Sandy Tang is being charged with alleged wire fraud to steal over $350,000 in unemployment benefits from the Washington State Employment Security Department, using the identities of more than 100 Washington residents during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The suspect is the CEO of sporting company, Ecobet.
