Pressure is mounting within the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, to reconcile their differences ahead of the 2027 general election.

Party insiders, according to findings, believe a united front among the state’s major political actors will be critical to the APC’s chances of retaining power, especially as Abiodun’s reported ambition to represent Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly gathers momentum.

Abiodun’s ambition has halted Daniel’s re-election aspiration as Senator representing Ogun East.

The push for rapprochement is being driven by concerns that lingering divisions among key stakeholders could weaken the party’s structure and create challenges ahead of the next election cycle.

Insiders within the party are urging Abiodun to embark on a genuine reconciliation process with aggrieved leaders, particularly Daniel and his political family, while emphasising the need to bring all stakeholders back into the fold.

A party source noted that “there is an urgent need for the party to unite ahead of the general election,” stressing that the experience and network of leaders like Daniel remain important assets for the APC.

The source added that reconciliation must go beyond courtesy visits, arguing that “equating visitation with reconciliation is a mirage.”

There are also calls within the party for Daniel to be assigned a strategic role ahead of 2027, with some stakeholders suggesting that the former governor could play a major role in the APC campaign structure.

Such a move, insiders believe, would send a strong signal of unity and reassure party members who feel alienated by recent political developments.

The pressure for reconciliation comes as Abiodun prepares to complete his second term as governor, with political attention already shifting to his next move and the battle for the future control of Ogun politics.

Beyond the Abiodun-Daniel relationship, party stakeholders are also urging the governor to reconnect more closely with grassroots members and leaders across Ogun East.

Some party faithful, insiders said, remain unhappy with aspects of the current political arrangement, although many have continued to support the party due to the influence of respected leaders, including Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI.

The stakeholders also want Abiodun to personally engage with the electorate and take greater ownership of his political future, warning against overreliance on structures and resources.

According to party insiders, the success of the APC in 2027 may depend largely on its ability to manage internal relationships and present a united front.

With the 2027 elections approaching, party stakeholders believe a reconciliation between Abiodun and Daniel could reshape Ogun APC’s political equation and strengthen its chances in the next electoral contest.
