Call Your Followers To Order – Police Urges High Profile Backers As Nationwide Protest Go Bad

Across differents states of the federation, the nationwide protest themed “endbadgovernance”has started going awry.

The protest planned as a 10-day event started today, Thursday, August 1, 2024.

But barely hours into the start-off, it has gone off-the-book, with violence and clashes recorded in different states including the federal capital – Abuja.

Speaking on the development, the force public relations office – Nigerian Police Headquarters – Olumuyiwa Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, urged high profile backers of the protest to use their platforms to call the protesters to order.

Adejobi spoke as a guest on Channels Television programme monitoring the protest across the country.

Pointing out that there appears to be a lack of proper structure to coordinate the activities of the protesters, the Police spokesperson urged the high profile backers to address what is happening, speak to their followers as one of the quick fix measures to stop the emerging violence before things spiral out of control. 

Pointing out that although the police are prepared for all eventualities, he disclosed that he found it surprising that a protest planned for 10 days is getting out of control barely two hours after start-off.

Adejobi , however, insists that the police will continue to professionally engage the protesters along the guideline of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s directive that there should be no loss of life.
