The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has called for the postponement of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
Spokesperson for the Makarfi faction, Dayo Adeyeye, said the Independent National Electoral Commission should postpone the election until the Supreme Court determines who should be the authentic candidate of the PDP.
The Makarfi group is supporting Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) while the Ali Modu Sheriff faction has backed Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim for the election.

Adeyeye said, “We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to urge the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government to desist from using the organs of the state to subvert the will of the Nigerians.

“We call on INEC to postpone the election pending the determination of the suit before the Supreme Court. We make this call against the backdrop of the fact that INEC is a party to the suit before the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and it is well aware of the steps taken by certain parties to the suit to frustrate the course of justice.”

But the spokesperson for the Sheriff faction, Mr. Bernard Mikko, condemned the call for the postponement of the poll.

“The case in court is a pre-election matter and every loyal PDP member and sympathiser should be focused on working for the PDP to win, regardless of the candidate for now,” he added.
