The election that brought Governor of Bayelsa State Duoye Diri to office has been nullified

A fresh election to determine ‘’a lawfully’’ elected Governor has been ordered within 90days.

This was the decision of the Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal which sat in Abuja.

The verdict was given today, Monday, August 17, 2020.

The tribunal hinged its decision on the fact that King George, the candidate of another political party ADP was excluded from the November 16, 2019, Bayelsa State gubernatorial election.

The ADP candidate proved that his participation would have had a significant impact on the outcome of the election that produced Diri as the Governor of Bayelsa State.

The fresh election is to allow the ADP candidate to be a part of the contest.
Societynow.ng learned Governor Diri will appeal against the verdict at a higher court.
