There are renewed talks about the Governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun in deciding his successor.

The talks are centered around whether he would achieve success in a vital area his predecessors failed to make a headway.

No Governor in Ogun state has been able to get his prefered successor.

Created in 1976 and dotted with a handful of military administrators and short lived tenures in truncated democracy, Ogun Governorś started having the freewill to determine their successors with the start of `modern democracy’ in 1999 – but none of them have been able to do it.

Osoba

Olusegun Osoba was unable to do it with Gbenga Daniel a candidate of the opposition party succeeding him in 2003.

Despite his larger than life performance in a two-term of 8years, Daniel lost out in getting his man on board as successor with Ibikunle Amosun – the chieftain of a rival political party – taking over in 2011.

Daniel

Amosun, acknowledged as the Governor with a near total – if not absolute -control of the politics of Ogun state for 8 years, was also unable to install his preferred successor.

He did not win in his all-out-attempt to stop Dapo Abiodun.

Amosun

Abiodun was sworn-in as Governor in 2019.

Abiodun will complete his second term – eight years rule – in 2027.

The talks have started on whether he would succeed in installing his desired successor -where all other former Governors with stronger hold on power and politics did not succeed.
