Why Seun Egbegbe Was Set Free
was unable to meet the bail conditions
Incarcerated movie practitioner, Kareem Olajide better known as Seun Egbegbe has been set free.
Egbegbe was freed by a Federal High court in Lagos on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
The court ruled that Egbegbe who was found guilty of just one of the 44 count charges against him had exceeded the imprisonment time in detention and was set free.
The court ruled that the prosecutor failed to provide witnesses to substantiate their claims against Egbegbe in the dismissed charges.
Egbebe spent over 6years short of 4montths in detention. He was unable to meet the bail conditions granted in the case against him.
He was arraigned on February 10, 2017, and remanded in prison custody.
Egbegbe and his accomplices – Oyekan Ayomide, Lawal Kareem, Olalekan Yusuf, and Muyideen Shoyombo – were accused of defrauding about 30 bureau de change (BDC) operatives in Lagos.
Widely reported allegation of stealing 10 pieces of iPhones ( 6 and 7 editions) in the popular computer village, Ikeja Lagos just days before his arrest- while on bail – particularly made the case against him sordid in 2017.
