Why Orji Kalu Remains In Prison Custody

Former Governor of Abia State Orji Uzor Kalu is still in prison custody.

Societynow.ng learned that this development as a result of the procedures it takes to perfect his release.

The Supreme Court on Friday, May 8, 2020, ordered a retrial of the case that earned the former governor prison sentence for alleged N7.65Billion fraud.

The verdict vacated the 12 years imprisonment sentence Kalu is serving and gave him back his freedom ahead of the beginning of a new trial.

Societynow.ng, however, learned freedom for ‘’Kalu’’ who is also a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was not ‘’automatic’’.

‘’He has to be processed out of the prison system’’ a source pointed.

Insiders disclosed the process is already at an advanced stage and by ‘’early next week’’ the former governor should be inside the comfort of his home.
